Day 8 – Let’s Hope This Doesn’t Mess Up My Jewelry Making

Ouch! I just got back from a visit to theĀ orthopedics doctor, for a follow-up on my right wrist. The one that’s been causing me pain for the past couple of years. Since the cancer, of course. Always the cancer. Last time I saw her she said that the next time I saw her, we’d be talking surgery. Just a simple little surgery done on a Friday, back to work on Monday. No more cortisone shots for me!

That was a year ago. That last cortisone shot made me feel better for months. And then the pain started again so I made an appointment.

Then I went wheat-free for a month and the pain was almost gone. Not all gone but no longer waking me up in the night with throbbing pain gone.

Just like my hips quit hurting when I walked.

The holidays came and I ate wheat and gluten like an idiot, for weeks! Now the pain has returned to my hips (I just noticed today as I was quickly walking down the hallway at work, like I always do. But this is the first time my hips started to seize up since I’d gone wheat-free) And my wrist is beginning to pulse with pain ever so slightly.

She ordered an x-ray of my wrist. Looking at the one from 2 years ago she said, “It looks like you have a little arthritis here.” Which was news to me because when we did that last set of x-rays she told me I didn’t have any arthritis. So we took the x-rays and she came back and said, “It looks like your arthritis has gotten just a tiny bit worse.”

Alrighty then, doc. Thanks for the confusing information. I’d have talked more to her but she’d already had me running an hour late and by this time we both just wanted to go home. This clinic, Twin Cities Orthopedics, is a nightmare. It’s just gotten way too big and they don’t have enough space for everyone, hence the long wait in the waiting room while rooms were full. I think that after this cortisone shot wears off I’ll be moving to another clinic. Not that there are any better orthopedic clinics in the Twin Cities metro area. They’re all overworked. If any of you are going to go to college for pre-med, and then on to medical school (because I’m sure Kitchenblogic’s target audience is young people heading off to college) please go into orthopedics or gastroenterology. Thanks.

My wrist is killing me. Cortisone shots in the wrist are not for sissies.

Is this not the most fun blog, ever? I’ve turned into a senior citizen, forever blathering on about what ails me. With the added deliciousness of creme brulee!

Tomorrow! I have my first Wednesday off in weeks! Well, besides that Wednesday I went to New York. But that was a stressful Wednesday. Tomorrow I’ve got nothing planned but housecleaning and jewelry making!

Your wrist might just be hurting because you started making jewelly again …. it might be flaring up because you are using your wrists more often. Just a thought.
